Think and Grow Rich or Feel and Grow Rich?

Napoleon Hill in his famous book titled “Think and Grow Rich” laid out his hypothesis that our thoughts control our feelings and by changing our thinking we can change our results. I am not sure that he was 100% correct and I would love to hear your thoughts and feelings about this subject!

My coach and mentor, Jeff Combs runs a program called “More Heart than Talent” and in his one-to-one coaching he teaches and inspires his students to get into their heart away from their head. Our heads are full of negative programs that are put into us by dysfunctional parents, teachers, siblings, spouses, relatives, bosses etc during our lives. Once these programs have taken hold, our subconscious minds believe these negative messages and we live a life of unrealized talent.

So, if this be true, then Napoleon Hill was correct. Our thoughts control our results. However, if we wish to change our results, can we merely change our thoughts?

I believe that our thoughts transfer to our hearts and invade our cells turning into cell memory. Our feelings are the messengers that transport the thoughts to our cells. Our feelings are therefore in alignment with our thoughts. But, to change our thinking, I am in agreement with Jeff Combs. It takes a change of heart to change our minds!

This can be done in a quantum instant by connecting with our heart where our passion for life lies. In my previous blog post, I wrote about comebacks and how these are driven by our passion. Whatever we are passionate about, can be achieved. Well passion lives in our hearts, not our heads. It is my belief that passion drives our feelings which then drives our thoughts.

However, once you connect with your passion and desire, it then takes consistent thinking work to deliver the end result of your dreams. And, this is exactly what Napoleon Hill spoke of in his book. “Think and Grow Rich” is essential reading for any entrepreneur. No matter whether you accept everything presented in the book, it will assist you get connected with your passion and desire and then teach you how to develop a plan to deliver it for optimum success!

LOVE IT Clare!! Great stuff. I am trying to think with my heart instead of my head. It is very difficult to undo many, many years of negativity but I am determined to succeed! I look forward to reading more posts on this subject. Thank you for your blog and making a difference.

Clare, great post. I know that I let my head rule way too much instead of listening to my heart. In fact getting back to listening with my heart is so hard to do these days that I almost feel I have lost the ability. Some quiet time to reflect and meditate is required this weekend for me I think.

Yes, what are thoughts without action? I guess that for Napoleon Hill, the action may have been assumed – the thoughts are so strong they drive the action to success. I am so grateful to have met you, Greg and to be a partner with you in Mastermind to Personal Power. I look forward to the synergistic effect of our Mastermind sessions.

Hi Michael, we obviously share many thoughts and philosophies! Most things in life can be broken down into principles and if you get them, you get it! I will check out your “quantum leap” post!

Hi David, balance is absolutely the key and a key that is so frequently missing an entrepreneur’s life. We often get caught up in the business of building our biz forgetting that the creative juices flow best when we are relaxed and not over-taxed and over-tired. Thanks for dropping by, I appreciate it!

Joseph, I confess that I heard about Think and Grow Rich a long time ago, and yet it took me until last year to read it – wow what a read and I have read it several times since. That is why I would encourage any budding entrepreneur to pick it up and read. There are aspects of success that I believe are not covered by Napoleon Hill but he does a significant job leading us there! Thanks for your comment, I appreciate it!

Darlene, you are so right that every time I re-read Think and Grow Rich – there is something new to be gleaned – perhaps a different angle since we are continuously evolving! Looking forward to connecting with you more – would love to hear your MS story. I treated many MS clients in my London clinic.

Clare,
Every time I re-read Think and Grow Rich I learn something new. I agree with you that our thoughts invade our heart, so it is wise to monitor them. It’s amazing how much negativity creeps in if you allow it. Thanks for the reminder to stay focused!

Clare, I have read Think and Grow Rich several times. What a great book! I agree with what you said “Whatever we are passionate about, can be achieved”. I really think it takes passion along with our thoughts to achieve success.
One of my favorite quotes from Napoleon Hill is “What the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve”. Very powerful! Thanks for the great post! ~Joseph McDevitt

It all comes down to balance. You must have balance in your life, mind, body and soul. With balance comes clarity and focus of energy, thought and action. Achieving balance is the key-and the challenge.

I agree with you Think and Grow Rich is absolutely the start for any entrepreneur. I’ll make a stronger statement. If you don’t get these principles then you’re not cut out to be an entrepreneur. Interesting you wrote about quantum leap since recently I wrote about it in a post http://prosperyourmind.blog.com/2010/07/31/quantum-leap/

Thanks,

Michael

I always thought the title should be, “Think, Act, and Grow Rich” ~Greg
